It estimates the likelihood that a participant has income below the National Food Poverty Line, National Capacity Line, National Asset Line, 125% of National Asset Line, 150% of National Asset Line, USAID "Extreme" Poverty Line, $1.25/Day/2005 PPP line, and $2.50/Day/ 2005.

The PPI is based on data from the 29,403 households surveyed in the 2008 Encuesta Nacional de Ingresos y Gastos de Hogares (ENIGH). This latest version of the PPI for Mexico was created in August of 2009 and then revised in November of 2009.
