Free Course: Market Segmentation at the Bottom of the Pyramid
This free short course from +Acumen and the Grameen Foundation is offered 2 to 3 times per year via the +Acumen online learning platform. It will teach you about market segmentation, or how to divide your market into clusters that have relatively similar needs. You’ll learn about new survey tools like the Progress Out of Poverty Index; understand the nuts and bolts of market segmentation; complete a customer segmentation matrix; and start to build customer personas so that you can better identify who you’re targeting and design products or programs with them in mind.
Free Course: Designing and Running Randomized Evaluations
This twelve-week course is offered as part of the MITx MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Development Policy (DEDP). The course provides step-by-step training on how to design and conduct a randomized controlled trial (RCT), including the key components of a well-designed RCT, insights on how to implement your RCT in the field (from questionnaire design to data collection and management), and common practices to ensure research transparency. No previous economics or statistics background is required. However, economic and statistics concepts and vocabulary are used and some familiarity is advised.
The Progress out of Poverty Index is featured in section 3, session 13 of the course, "Measuring Welfare and Consumption." The session is led by Dean Karlan, Founder of Innovations for Poverty Action and Professor of Economics at Yale University.
